[Work Description]

Completed in 2020, this small concerto for piano and wind orchestra is an experimental piece that aims to cheerfully deconstruct the composer's attempts at "joke sheet music" (comedy scores) that he has been developing online, by incorporating the strict binary format of a concerto. The title "Concerto for Piano and 'Wind Orchestra'" is deliberately omitted to suggest that while the piano is the central focus of this piece, its emphasis on the individual is emphasized in its caricatured portrayal of a familiar soundscape rooted in Japanese school culture (so much so that it could even be considered a folk song!). When performed live, this piece superimposes the "situation in which it is performed" itself within the work, creating a meta-nested structure. This structure itself is intended to be presented as a theme.

The scene is a fun, noisy slapstick comedy between a pianist and a brass band who happen to live in adjacent rooms. Practice motifs include tuning for the brass band, basic ensemble playing (scales and chorales), Holst's Suite No. 2 for Brass Band, Hanon for piano, and Clementi's Sonatine.

The flow of the songs and stories is as follows:

"When I was practicing the piano after school, the brass band started practicing in the next room.

The pianist, finally enraged by the anger, tries to disrupt the band's practice by various means.

Every once in a while, the brass band comes over to tease the pianist. As they interrupt each other, both sides gradually become happier.

And at the end, they end up singing together in harmony...or so you'd think?
